Shanghai General Motors, a joint venture of US carmaker General Motors (GM) and Shanghai Automotive Industry (SAIC) Motor, has unveiled the first China-built Sail Springo electric vehicle (EV) at the ongoing Auto Guangzhou 2012 event in China.

Shanghai General Motors Unveil New Sail Springo EV

The new EV is powered by a permanent magnet electric motor that generates an output power of 85kW and about 510Nm of torque, while allowing the car to sprint from 0-100km/h in 10 seconds.

Featuring a 22kWh battery that offers a maximum range of about 150km (93 mph) when fully charged, the new EV is aimed at running a top speed of 130km/h.

The vehicle comes with a sport button that assists in offering a 20% boost in acceleration and its enhanced full-frame chassis with improved stabilizer bar and a finely tuned suspension is claimed to offer stability during high speeds.

Developed in collaboration between Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), the new EV incorporates a system that blends a battery liquid cooling system, motor efficiency optimizer, a rechargeable energy storage system mated to alow gear design, and low-rolling resistance tires.

The EV can also be managed with smart phone mobile app provided by Shanghai OnStar, which allows users to perform operations remotely including starting the heater or air conditioner as well as offering drivers with information on tire pressure among many others.
