Pentair announced that it received an Aquatech Innovation Award for the Memthane Anaerobic Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR), a joint innovation between Pentair and Veolia Biothane. Aquatech Amsterdam is the world s top trade exhibition for process, drinking and waste water technology.

A wastewater treatment technology, the Memthane Anaerobic MBR uniquely addresses the challenge of producing energy more efficiently and using water resources more effectively. The technology reclaims energy from wastewater streams and converts it into biogas, which can then be used as an energy source by the production facility. Additionally, the effluent, or waste water that is produced, is of such a high standard that it can either be discharged or reused. The technology can be used in industries such as distilleries, dairies and bio-ethanol production.

"We are honored to be recognized by the industry for our innovative technology," said Netha Johnson, President, Pentair Filtration and Process. "At Pentair, we strive to continually push the boundaries of innovation to help our customers get more energy and efficiencies from each drop of water."

The Aquatech exhibition is a part of International Water Week Amsterdam, which brings together the international community to explore practical solutions to various global water issues. A key event during the conference is the Industrial Leaders Forum on November 7. Leading figures, including Todd Gleason, Pentair s Senior Vice President of Growth, will come together to discuss integrated water solutions for a green economy and present practical solutions to resolve the ever challenging water demands around the world.

"At Pentair, we innovate around the interconnection of food, water and energy," said Gleason. "Water is critical to producing food and creating energy, and energy is essential to the movement, filtration and reuse of water. We help our customers do more with existing critical resources, working to achieve more effective methods and sustainable outcomes."

In addition to the Memthane Anaerobic MBR, Pentair s Aquatech Amsterdam 2013 highlighted innovations include:

-Color Removal Package (CRP): A finalist in the Innovation Awards Water Treatment category, Pentair s latest nanofiltration technology is highly effective in the removal of Natural Organic Matter (NOM) in fresh water. The CRP s hollow fiber membrane delivers many advantages compared to conventional technologies, including a 99.999 percent reduction of bacteria and viruses, a single-step pre-treatment process and a simplified treatment operation system.

-Green Reverse Osmosis (RO): This high efficiency RO membrane is capable of greater than 50 percent recovery while maintaining similar performance as a standard RO membrane running at less than 30 percent recovery.

-SimpliFlow Water Management System: Comprised of single, twin and quad manifolds with a mounting bracket, this system provides easy management and identification of water lines for easier and faster maintenance of foodservice water-using equipment.

-Hybrid DI System: Combines the benefits of an RO system and a water softener without using salt. Pentair skillfully adapted the patented Voltea charge barrier technology within this system for commercial uses where cost and space limitations are key considerations.

At Aquatech, Pentair is also featuring water technology solutions from brands across the company s portfolio including X-Flow, Codeline, Fleck, Shurflo, Everpure, Haffmans, Fairbanks Nijhuis, Keystone, Sapag and Biffi.

-Aquatech Innovation Awards:A total of 60 entries were assessed by an independent jury of international specialists across five categories for the 2013 award, including Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Transport & Storage, Process Control Technology & Process Automation and Innovation Not To Market Yet. Originality of the product, feasibility (technical, economic, reliability) and sustainability (environment, safety, and energy efficiency) are the three key criteria used to select the nominated products. Pentair s X-Flow-branded Color Removal Package from Advanced Water Technologies was also a finalist in the Water Treatment category. In 2011, Pentair won the Innovation Award for its Fairbanks Nijhuis-branded fish-friendly pump.
